*Who is Jay?*
My name is Jay Otsuka. Some folks still remember me as Toshi
Otsuka. As a nursing student in Boston area, I am either in the hospital working or studying. When you don’t
find me in the hospital, I am on the Charles
River with a canoe or in a coffee shop
with a cup of decaf. Prior to the nursing school, I was a mental health
therapist and doctoral student in clinical psychology. I had worked as an
outpatient and outreach therapist in Massachusetts. Treated primarily boys and girls ages 5-16 with all kinds of anxiety,
depression, and “behavioral” issues at a community agency. I
was with this agency from 1999 to 2003. Before that, I finished a BA in Psychology
(Temple U) and a Master's degree in Psychological Services (Counseling, U of
Pennsylvania/Upenn).
Jay is my alter ego, which grew in me as I went through all stuff in US over
years. Jay came from the novel, The Great Gatsby. Jay or J is also a character
in Haruki Murakami’s The Wild Sheep Chase.
